MY STORY
My name is Ray Kwok and I'm a cinematographer based in Toronto, Canada. When I graduated from post-secondary education, I pursued a career in software development but always tinkered in wedding photography and cinematography. In 2010, wedding cinematography became more than a hobby; it was a passion so I decided to leave my career to pursue cinematography full-time. Some thought I was a little crazy but I know it was the right decision for me.
Throughout these years, I've had the pleasure of working with and training with some of the wedding industry's best including Michael Y Wong and Joee Wong. Because of the nature of my work, my amazing couples have hired me to accompany them to their international weddings including Malta, Texas (USA), Mexico, and France.
MY JOURNEY
My first video camera was a Sony Camcorder, with “Steadyshot” technology- actually, it was my dad’s camcorder.
Being 11 years old, my dad decided to honour me with the position of family videographer.
I would film our family vacations, birthday get togethers, random moments at home…
But, my favorite was when my sister, cousins, and I would make mini stunt videos, showing us doing flips and teleporting, using stop-motion.
As I grew older, I also developed a strong interest in photography, which I would soon realize was integral to my style of cinematography.
MY PHILOSOPHY
A wedding is a ceremony in which two people are united in marriage. And behind every wedding is a beautiful love story, each unique and special in their own way.
Much like all relationships, my relationship with weddings has also grown over the years. I have learned something new from each one of my couples and not only has these experiences contributed to my cinematography but to me as a person.
It is your story that inspires me, and as your cinematographer, my job is to help you tell that story.
